LOCATING AND THEORIZING PLATFORM POWER
نویسندگان
چکیده
This panel locates and theorizes platform power through five case studies, focussing on: 1) video sharing platforms, 2) app stores, 3) programmatic advertising networks, 4) labor staffing intermediaries, 5) cloud computing. Each study starts with the question: where do relations of dependence take shape on examined platform(s) how are these organized? Addressing this question, panelists hypothesize that is exerted, codified, operationalized around particular infrastructural services, which enable specific economic activities, such as advertising, content sharing, data analysis, management, hosting, so on. Examining specifically focus evolution platforms. Infrastructural Facebook Reels or Apple’s App Store each set standards provide gateways for complementors–content service providers, advertisers, talent agencies–to access other institutional actors, data, end-users. Yet, services also constantly adapted to local regulatory frameworks, retain end-users complementors, respond competitors in ecosystems. In turn, changes force complementors adapt their own operations continue offering products platform. It moments change, when reshuffled, becomes most visible. combination, studies will more detailed insights into ecosystem evolve over time.

متن کاملTheorizing Modernity and Technology
Technology made modernity possible. It has been the engine of modernity, shaping it and propelling it forward. The Renaissance was made possible by major fourteenthand fifteenth-century inventions like the mechanical clock, the full-rigged ship, fixed-viewpoint perspective, global maps, and the printing press. The emergence of industrial society in the eighteenth century was the result of an in...
متن کاملTheorizing Corruption
The aim of this paper is to gain the broad explanation of corruption using simple computational model. We elaborated further the model of corruption described previously in Situngkir (2003b), with some additions in model’s properties. We performed hundreds of experiments computationally using Swarm and constructed the explanation of corruption based upon these results. We show that corruption s...

process essentially is conservative and, in some discipline, produces a regression to some mean—all articles in a particular journal resemble each other. As a result, there is little innovation in the forms and contents of thinking and theorizing. متن کاملLocating Critical Lines in High-voltage Electrical Power Grids
Nowadays the issue of vulnerability and protection of critical infrastructure is attracting a great deal of attention among scientific researchers. One of the most used approaches is that of complex networks. A critical infrastructure (e.g. a power grid) is represented as a graph in which nodes represent the main components of the network (e.g. power plants or trasmission substations) and edges...
